Dr Shetty, the pioneer, has several “firsts” to his credit. He is the first heart surgeon in India to perform heart surgeries on new born babies, using micro chip cameras. He has also pioneered operations for complex problems of the heart, such as, pulmonary endarterectomy, redo heart surgery, valve repairs in new born babies, and aortic aneurysm surgeries. Dr Shetty and his team have performed over 42,000 major heart surgeries. Of these, 15,000 operations have been on children; several of them on new born babies from India as well as neighbouring countries. His credo: Plan on more than you can do, then do it.
In addition, Dr Shetty has assisted the state government of Karnataka to launch Yeshashwini Micro Health Insurance, recognized to be the largest Micro Health Insurance Program in the world.
