Introduction

All organisations live with Chronic Problems that silently erode the performance of their vital processes. Educational Institutions are no exception – common examples include Admissions, Placement, Purchasing, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Performance Appraisal, and Complaints Resolution, among others.

These chronic problems generate Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) that is hidden within the budget. COPQ is at least one-third of total cost. Solving these problems can meaningfully improve the health of an institution – operationally and financially.

The remedy is Structured Problem Solving, adopted organization-wide. The four steps are • Problem Definition • Problem Diagnosis • Problem Remedy • Locking the Improvements. QualTech® Healthcare is the national competition platform that recognizes this remedy in action by elevating the best projects that emerge from the QualTech® Rx improvement pathway.

The top 20 projects are shortlisted and presented at QualTech® Prize - Healthcare, an open national competition organized by Qimpro® Foundation and CAHO. Project Reports of these finalists are published in CAHO's quarterly magazine, The Spark, with a Qimpro® Seal of Excellence.
