Dr. Ashok Agarwal holds a MBBS from Kolkata University and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Johns Hopkins University, He has spent 40 years building Public Health and Rural Development institutions across India. In 1984 he founded the Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) at Jaipur, now IIHMR University. IIHMR has independent campuses in Jaipur, Delhi, Bangalore, and Visakhapatnam (upcoming). He also established a blood bank and hematology research centre (Bhoruka Blood Bank) in 1982, at Kolkata, to bring modern hematological services to the city's underserved residents. He is the managing trustee of Bhoruka Charitable Trust, serving hundreds of villages in Rajasthan, and a driving force behind Aapni Yojana, a user-fee-based rural drinking water initiative supplying drinking water to a million people. Dr. Agarwal has served on several government and private boards focused on water, health, and rural development.
Dr. Ashok Agarwal is currently serving as a board member of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health since two decades. He also served as a trustee of Johns Hopkins University from 2014 to 2020. Currently, he serves as a trustee of SEARCH Gadchiroli, DISHA Foundation Jaipur and QIMPRO Foundation Mumbai.
