Dr MAHESH DESAI co-established the Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital in 1976, in Nadiad, Gujarat. His mission was, and continues to be, the provision of institutionalized treatment to the common man for various kidney diseases. He is currently the Managing Trustee of MPUH and Honorary Managing Director of Muljibhai Patel Society for Research in Nephro-Urology.
In keeping with his mission, Dr. Desai has developed innovative techniques for Percutaenous Nephrolithotripsy (PCNL). To date, he has conducted more than 14,000 PCNL procedures. This is a world record.urther, Dr. Desai has expanded the application of ultrasound in Urology. He has also established the service of Kidney Transplantation, a first in Gujarat.
As a statesman, Dr. Desai has served as President of the West Zone Chapter of the Urological Society of India. He has also conducted 160 workshops; and published 120 scientific papers, in national and international journals.
Dr Desai has built an international reputation in his field of specialization. Noteworthy is the fact that Dr. Desai has been a Visiting Professor at Stanford University, Duke University, and Cleveland Clinic in the USA. He is a Honorary Member of Singapore Urology Association, Chinese Urology Association, and Urological Society of Australia & New Zealand. He is the first Indian to have been elected as a member of the American Association of Genito-Urinary Surgeons.
