Prof Rudra Pratap

Founding Vice Chancellor, Plaksha University

Prof Rudra Pratap is the Founding Vice Chancellor of Plaksha University, Punjab, since 2021.

Earlier, Prof Pratap had multiple avatars, at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore from 1996 till 2020. These included: Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering; Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering; Professor, Centre for Nano Science & Engineering; Founder Chairperson, Centre for Nano Science & Engineering; and Deputy Director, Planning & Infrastructure.

Before joining IISc, Prof Pratap taught at the Sibley School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Cornell University.

Prof Pratap’s distinguished contributions to Technology Research and Education, span over thirty herculean years. His research areas have included: Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS), Sensor Technology, Computational Mechanics, and Mechanobiology. He led India’s first Research Lab in the field of Microelectromechanical Systems, the CraneSci MEMS Lab, at IISC, Bangalore.

Prof Pratap also co-founded i2n Technologies Private Limited, a company that has successfully commercialized the very first indigenous MEMS product, namely, MEMS pressure sensors. The company currently supplies MEMS pressure sensors to the aerospace industry in India.

Prof Pratap has published 250 papers in peer reviewed journals. He has authored three books. He is also author of seventeen patents.

Prof Pratap has an ambitious Vision. He aims to reimagine Higher Education and Research in India,
to enable it to aggressively leapfrog into the global arena. He also advocates Quality Engineering, as
well as Reliability Engineering, in all his endeavours.
